It was a part of my journey that really turned my life around. I remember having my blade around its neck. He was the 6th on my list of 12 names. Who knew accepting a contract job would define the path that I walk today. "I sense a lot of hatred within you." In a way, when he dropped the words, it felt as though he had been expecting me. After pausing for a brief moment, I walked up behind him from the Shadows and unsheathed my blade. "You certain those are the last words you wish to say?" He didn't move from his throne, his back still turned against me, he simply held a glowing object in his left hand and said: "Are -you- certain this is the passage you -wish- to take ... for the rest of your life?" And that -- was when my life came to a twist. Though perhaps this story would make more sense if we went a little further back. It pains be to go back to what I once was but I understand the past will always be with me. Back then I wasn't exactly.. a good person. Most people would label me as a Mercenary for an appropriate term. Hell, it might as well been my job name. For as long as I can remember, I had no heart, I had no soul. Day and night I would collect bounties, accept contract jobs. Take a certain individual out with no questions asked. It worked for me, I've always had a warm place to sleep in. Hunger was never in my mind. The only starvation I would have ... was greed. It wasn't long until I was offered a job to take out the 12 Mythic creatures. We're talking about the harbringers of each critter. I signed the contract and just like any other job, I went to work en route to carry it out. It was an interesting job. One that I don't think I would ever encounter again. The first Mythic creature I decided to take down was the Dragon. I went through hell just to get to his door step. In the end, an ex-Mercenary would have said it was worth it all. The Mythic Dragon offered me a contract of his own, in return for his life. All I had to do spare him and take the head of the Mythic Dog instead, and he would be in great depth to me. I walked out of his Cave and slipped my feet quietly into the Dog's den. As I encounter the leader of the puppies, he came to me with the exact same arrangement. So -- what did I do? I ended up plugging my ears and killing both the Dog -and- the Dragon. Their proposal were great, I just simply didn't have time to deal under the table of my original contract. This was probably where we left off earlier. I walked into the 6th cavern on my list and you've heard this part. My dagger -- his neck -- me asking for his last words. "Well? Is it?" I snapped back from my brief absent-minded moment and let out the first thing that was in my mind: "Huh?" He finally stood up and unleashed a brief chuckle while pushing aside my blade wielding hand gently. He turned around, his left hand still holding onto the blue glowing stone. "I know what it is you are doing. Believe me, I won't stand in your way of completing it. So whenever you stop day-dreaming, go and make your move. But --" As I tried to grasp my focus in slaying him, he offered me a deal. No, it wasn't the deal that the 5 previous dead Mythic commanders offered me. I was surprised and confused by what I heard." "Take this Tao stone, and ask yourself, is your life complete ... are -you- complete. Perhaps one day you'll find your balance." I listened and somewhat understood what he was trying to do. "You have quite a tongue.. but it won't save you. Why would any of this matter to you anyway? You're about to perish." He nodded. "You're right. Why should I attempt to help the person who is about to kill me. Another lesson you may one day learn as well. For every action there is a reaction. There is a bad for every good. It is the balance of nature, and I simply doing my part. Perhaps my death will signify a new beginning to a world you open new eyes with." - Sylvanas | |
